Episode #535August 10, 2026
Fastway WHAT REALLY HAPPENED - Pete Way - Fast Eddie - Dave King
In 1983, Fastway seemed to come out of nowhere—a new hard-rock band built around former members of Motörhead, UFO, and Humble Pie, but fronted by a completely unknown 21-year-old singer named Dave King. One moment King was unemployed; a few days later, he was in London recording with one of the hottest new bands in rock.
In this video, Robert looks back at discovering Fastway’s debut album, the surprising breakup that drove “Fast” Eddie Clarke out of Motörhead, and the mystery of why Pete Way helped create Fastway—and even gave the band half its name—yet never appeared on the album. He also explores Dave King’s extraordinary rise from obscurity, the story behind Fastway’s unusual songwriting process, and a possible hidden meaning in the lyrics to “Easy Livin’” involving the Mary Rose and the Eiffel Tower.
